A Simple, Effective Cardio Workout

There's a saying that goes, "keep it simple stupid." When it comes to working out, too many people are looking for gimmicks, new methods, secrets or whatever! The truth is this: working out is not "rocket science." An effective workout program is more than "gym science," and it is based on basic science. Forget about workout pills, powders, fat-burners, etc. Effective, scientifically-based workouts will give you the results you want.

When it comes to burning fat and losing weight, there is a very effective cardio workout that I do regularly. Are you ready for this? Here it is:

Run sprints for 20 minutes! That's it! Running outside is even better because you fight against gravity, ground forces and the elements (usually wind) with no help from a cardio machine. Here is how it works:

Run a sprint for at least 50 yards, walk or jog back and do it again. Do this for 20 minutes. You can probably get in 8-10 sprints. And then you're done! This workout burns fat and sculpts your body. Its that simple! Try it! Note: When I played college ball, we ran as many as 60 consecutive 40 yard sprints on the Monday after a game!

  1. Thats it? so simple? May be there is so much hype around this industry . Its almost easy to forget simple things.

  2. Yes it is that simple! Exercise is not "rocket science." It just takes a commitment and a little guidance.

  3. I think you're absolutely right. There are too many fad diets and fitness routines that are just silly. It may not be easy at first, but the only way to stay healthy and fit is to include exercise into your daily routine. After a while it's fun too!

  4. I can't run on pavement b/c of a hip replacement. is there a way to simulate this on gym equipment? ( I'm in my 40's - on the young side for hip replacement, and in average shape)

  5. Callooh, You might want to try walking and running in water to start rebuilding strength and flexibility in your hip...bike riding, walking on treadmill are 2 other goods exercises you can try...mainly, work and rebuild slowly and don't rush the process!
